Any decisions librarians make on what they buy will have an impact on every kid in the school they are responsible for. Librarians rely on the expertise of others. Glance through review periodicals and buy the ones with the highest scores. Tremendous amount of power of what children will access. Assumes that every child in an age category are at a certain reading level. There is a tendency to ignore our own responses to these books because they"re not meant for us (students in this class) Our focus is not on readers, about the assumptions about the readers that they target. A lot of texts that are supposedly children"s literature extends beyond childhood. Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious- or so naysayers may suggest-
