In reference to slide 2 what causes madness : There are two different ways to explain madness: social model and medical model. But now, the two are merging there are morphed theories like psychoanalysis etc. Now we take into consideration the genetics, and chemical imbalance etc. , and combine it with the social understanding of the madness. In reference to slide 3 what words do we use to describe mad people : People first movement john is a man with schizophrenia emphasis on the person by putting them first. Psychiatric survivor because they survive societies that devalue their personal experiences: outcome of a social movement consumer survivor ex-patient mad movement , this does not mean that people have survived their psychiatric experience/symptoms etc. It is not i have survived my psychiatric schizophrenia . It means that they have survived the psychiatric system. Interested in critiquing the mental health system and looking for ways to work outside of it.
