Document Summary

When we start talking about how we are going to measure crime we have already started with the assumption that it"s not a perfect science . We know that we have to make some assumptions in order to try and get as close as we can to understanding what is really going on out there. Measuring crime means measuring naturally occurring phenomena which is not as simple as it may seem. Criminals don"t say to themselves when they"re committing crimes okay. I"m just going to do one b &e by myself and make sure there is only one victim here -so that when the criminologists come along the can count my crime easy fashion . It is difficult to collect crime statistics properly but when they are collected properly and responsibly they can improve our knowledge of crime and our ability to make informed policy decisions.
