CMN 373 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Direct Energy, Scott Munter, Caffeine
Document Summary
Here is a list of frequently felt physical and mental manifestations of public speaking and anxiety. You feel flushed and think that everyone can see that you are red. Your mouth is so dry you can hardly utter the words. You do not articulate, or you omit, parts of words. You feel there are too many eyes looking at you. Your vision is blurred and you cannot focus on the audience. You sway/pace back and forth or from side to side. You develop nervous tics and twitches (some can be seen). Ripples of fear and panic filter through your entire body. You get dizzy and think you may fall over. Your heart pounds so badly you can feel it in your ears. You feel weak and think you may pass out. You purposely omit parts of your presentation just so you can sit down. You leave the podium and say your last words on the way to your seat.
