Document Summary

Biological community has interacting species in a given area. Fate of population is linked to other species. 3 themes of species interaction: may affect distribution and abundance, agent of natural selection; co-evolutionary arm race b/w predator- prey/host-parasite, dynamic and conditional, competition (-/-) Intraspecific is b/w same species major cause of density-dependant growth (resources) Interspecific is b/w different species when they use limiting resources. Niche range of resources that is available to species/range of condition it can tolerate. Realized niche portion of resources used when completion occurs. Competitive exclusion principle states that no two species can coexist in the same niche. P aurelia (reach k later b/c small size) vs. p caudatum (reach k faster b/c large size) j curve then reach k and become logistic (both tested separately) Asymmetric competition when one"s fitness greater declines than other"s. Symmetric competition when both orgs" fitness decline equally.
