One section will be concepts, and then short answers, and: final essay 8 to 10 pages, double spaced. It is estimated that there are more than 370 million indigenous people across at least 70 countries worldwide. Indigenous peoples possess unique culture, governmental structures, politics, beliefs, practices and by engaging these unique traditions, they retain social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that tend to be distinct from those of the dominant societies. Self-identification as indigenous peoples at the individual level and accepted by the community as their member. Problematic. (ow do we authenticate a person(cid:495)s identity? can also be problematic because of residential schools. One level is self-identification and another is communal recognition.
