Paradigm, school, theory, or conceptual approach: all about trying to understand how and why things function. Has an emphasis on specific cause of abnormal behaviour; they zero in on particular factors that can cause a certain behaviour. Problems occur when information from other areas are ignored; its important to acknowledge other aspects of what makes a psychological disorder (e. g. , social causes, environmental influence, etc. ) One-dimensional approaches aren"t completely wrong (can allow people to identify specific factors) they are just more limited so its important to be aware of other factors. Multidimensional models of abnormal behaviour: factors to analyze. Biological factors: predisposition (genetics, family history, etc. ) Learning factors: learning that a phobia should be feared (viewing a negative depiction of needles, watching a violent show where needles are used). Watching someone"s anxiety can also cause you anxiety (watching someone who"s scared to give blood will cause you to fear giving blood).
