Affects between 4-8 of every 1000 people. Symptoms pattern can vary: start and progress slowly vs. quick onset and escalation, can get worse over time, have ups and downs, be mild throughout etc. Age of onset: psychotic features-between late teens and the mid 30"s. Might cycle through once vs. many times. May become easily confused, trouble organizing thoughts. Lose motivation, withdraw from life activities, spend a lot of time alone, engrossed in thoughts. Delusional thoughts, hallucinations, disorganized patterns of thoughts, emotions and behaviour. May simply be withdrawn, have trouble concentrating, lack motivation. Persecutory: belief that one if going to be harmed, harassed etc. by an individual, organization, other group. Referential: belief that certain gestures, comments, environmental cues etc. are directed at oneself. Grandiose: belief that one has exceptional abilities, wealth or fame. Erotomanic: belief that someone is (incorrectly) in love with them. Nihilistic: belief that a major catastrophe will occur.
