Document Summary
The enduring emotional bond formed between individuals: initial bond- between infant and caregiver, develops from the basic needs of safety and survival, foundation for seeking others for physical and psychological comfort (especially when feeling stressed or insecure) At first, it was believes to be all about being fed. Experiments: wire vs. cloth mother / provided food or not, other manipulations (e. g. , fear) Results: cloth mother regardless of food, won each time: maybe attachment is more than just about food, feeling secure, based on physical comfort. Signs of distress that infants start to show towards strangers. Develops at around 8 months of age. Noted 3 patterns of behaviour; secure, insecure & disorganized. Parental sensitivity (being tuned into the infant"s signals and communication, and responding appropriately) The key: moderate coordination between parent and child. They don"t respond to all needs; they know how much responsiveness and hypersensitivity (correlated with insecure attachment styles)
