Afects 4-8 of every 1000 adults worldwide (1%) Appears in all cultures & across history. Characterisic symptoms: breaks from reality, lack of integraion of thoughts & emoions, problems with atenion & memory. Symptom patern can vary: can start & progress very slowly or very quick onset & escalaion, can get worse over ime, or have ups & downs, or be mild throughout, etc. Age of onset: psychoic features come about between late teens & mid-30s, males: early to mid-20s, females: late 20s. May become easily confused, trouble organizing thoughts. Lose interest in or withdraw from social circle. Lose moivaion, withdraw from life aciviies, spend a lot of ime alone, engrossed in thoughts. Others may interpret this as the individual being lazy: acive.
