Conformity: occurs when we adjust our behaviours or aitudes to coincide with a group norm. Asked to look at three lines and choose which line matched the length of a standard line. When allowed to give answers privately: 100% Normaive inluence: social pressure to adopt a group"s perspecive in order to be accepted by a group. Leads to public acceptance but not necessarily private acceptance. Informaional inluence: when people internalize the values and beliefs of the group, coming to believe the same imes and feel the same way themselves. Misunderstood the instrucions, opical illusion explained etc. Leads more directly to the person"s private acceptance of the group norm. 1: higher proporion of female (vs. only male) group members, friends, family, acquaintances (vs. strangers) are present, task is unclear/ambiguous (vs. clear and simple tasks, other conform irst (vs. one other non-conformist, responses are made publicly (vs. anonymously) Foot-in-the-door technique: involves a simple request, followed by a much larger request.
