Document Summary
Human development begins in utero and lasts about 9 months until birth: things that happen during this time could interfere with life later on. Germinal (0-2 wks. : fallopian tube to uterus, term= zygote, key occurrences: cleavage, blastomere, morula and its differentiation, blastocyst. Embryonic (2-8 wks. : uterine wall, term= embryo, key occurrences: trophoblast structures, embryonic differentiation, and development of major physical structures. Birth: uterus, term: fetus, key occurrences: skeletal, organ and nervous systems become more developed and specialized, & growth. Conception happens in fallopian tube and occurs when sperm and ovum (egg) combine. Sperm and ova are gametes (specialized reproductive cells: each are haploids (cell contains half of gene material needed for development, when the sperm and ova combine, they are diploid (all/both sets of genetic material needed) Conception is the start of the germinal period. Period lasts 1-2 weeks: lots of cell division occurs at this time by cleavage. Cleavage forms blastomere resulting in a morula.
