Document Summary
Damage to the brain always has an impact; unused neurons degenerate. Measurement; brain scans (all areas have function); we don"t nd inactive single neurons. Brains are expensive due to it having a large outcome for us. Brain uses 20% of energy (calories) and 2% of weight. Risk during childbirth (brain can"t be too big otherwise can"t come out of birth canal) Other animals have larger brains than us (dolphin has larger brain than us); our brain is 3 pounds. We have lot of brain mass compared to our body. Folds on brain develop as you age (when you are born, your brain is completely smooth) Meninges are layers of skin over brain that protects it. Blood vessels: more blood is sent to part of brain that works hard. Ventricles full of cerebrospinal uid (csf); ventricles are basically chambers. Neurons have fatty tissue that insulates axons. Huge amount of tissue in the brain links every part of brain with each other.
