Document Summary
For each of the stages of development (prenatal, infancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood): : the first 2 weeks after the sperm and egg unite, marking the beginning of the first stage of development o. It will last until the developing cells have attached to uterine wall (8-10 days after conception) o. Sperm and ova are both specialized types of haploid (1 set of chromosome) reproductive cells called gamete. o. Gametes are the only haploid cells in the body o. The result of merging female and male gametes is the zygote: a new cell formed at conception o. Because the zygote has received half genome from each gamete, it has now a full genetic load, which makes it a diploid. o. During the germinal period, zygotic cells divide multiple times creating numerous identical copies that hold together in a spherical shape. These divisions occur through a process called cleavage which begins 24 hours after conception.
