In most countries voting rights for women are not even 100 years old. Woman"s suffrage is the right of women by law to vote in elections. Women"s suffrage was not across all men in fact only a small portion of men could vote as well. Various religious and ethnic groups, such as aboriginal peoples were disenfranchised. Men who were not property owners couldn"t vote. Voting was done by mainly upper-class men. The voting laws were under section 41 of the british north america (bna) act. The canadian movement didn"t start and was not spoken about until much later. In uk, supported by prominent intellectuals like john stuart mill and his wife harriet, but opposed by queen victoria. Instrumental in getting suffrage movements started and kept them going in every place in the uk. They submitted a proposal with 3 million signature on it for an extension of the vote.
