Thinking about politics: the monadic definition: focusing on one primary element as the most important for understanding a phenomenon. Politics as government: politics is the process by which societies are governed, politics is about the institutions and structures put in place to govern communities. Politics as a social process: politics is about society and how society functions in its many different facets, politics is about interaction between people, governments and nations. Politics as power: politics is concerned with power, influence and authority, politics is about who has power in a society and how that power is used, political parties and how they come to power.
