Nearly all great scientists started out as heretics, attempting to find evidence to get the world to believe something that was considered to be unconventional. Time is often the one thing that is required for a society to come to accept a well-adapted idea or skill. In that time many people had aversions to the materialistic framework of natural selection and that it could explain life without any spiritual or immaterial forces. (59) There was even a law passed by the tennessee legislature in 1925 known as the butler law, which forbade the teaching of darwin"s theories in any public school or university. Scope"s trial followed soon after the butler law was passed when a dayton tennessee school teacher was sent to prison for teaching evolution in the classroom. (monkey trial) by the mid. 1900s scientific limitations could be further explained and the influence of religion on views of scientific theory had faded.
