Goal of this course is to complete the following: further key concepts and topics by exploring it in greater detail, application of key concepts on real-world situations. Major themes of bmed 471: planning a health intervention, social determinants of health, cultural humility and special populations, process and importance of needs assessments, health equities and inequities. Can be defined as the gap between what is and what should be: needs can be applied on the individual, group, or an entire community/ population. Needs on a health scale look to address the gap between the current state of health and the desired state of health: this includes social and physical determinants of health such as homeless shelters and subsidized housing. Impact of a needs assessment: decreases the marginalization/ neglect of populations (less segmented populations, further decreases the inequities and poor health between communities/ populations, no assessment may lead to the waste of resources/ funds because of poor planning.
