Controversial topic to some extent: not because of the right wing fringe denying it, or that the death toll was exaggerated, but, debates between the intentionalists and the functionalists. Intentionalists hitler and anti-semitism: deborah lipstadt accused someone of being a holocaust denier. Sued her for libel, but they proved he did deny it. Who were the victims of the holocaust: gypsies, jehovah"s witnesses, homosexuals, polish people, soviet pows, handicapped people. Holocaust (greek) = holy burnt offering: dates back to the middle ages. Jews: 1950s were also a period of religious resurgence. The west fought the east not simply through military accumulation and proxy wars, but propaganda as well. The triple melting pot of america: catholic, protestant, jews.
