In 351 constantius rules as a sole ruler for that period defeating constans: when constantius died in 361, his place was taken by his cousin- julian. During enlightenment & renaissance julian was a hero: killed in persian war in 363. Barbarian invasion: earlier barbarian invasion, 3 major groupings: Goths: had settled just outside the roman empire north of the black sea, Alemanni: pushed widely across western europen, gaul, they broke the centuries of peace and stability. Franks: swept widely across gaul, go back to belgium and north.
