Memory and the multiple meanings of war: canada at 100, 150, and 158. Were on the road to 2017 150th anniversary of canadian confederation also 100th anniversary of vimmy ridge. It is possible to support our tropps while at the same time being critical of war: historical memory and counter-memory flood of wrting on ca history good cause it will help give us knowledge of the past. Historical memory is the big idea and counter memory go against that big idea. History isn"t just objective facts documents only take meaning once we interpret them and engage in the process of remembering. Foucaults idea gets us to ask theres more to it than just facts , whats important is how and why we remember it in the way we have. When it comes to memory issue although there are many memories, some have more cultural poweer than other memories do why were offcial with some memories rather than others.
