Document Summary
Gphy102 lecture 14 volcanic and tectonic landforms: oceanic crust. Configurations of the land surface taking distinctive forms and produced by natural processes: geomorphology. Scientific study of earth surface processes and landforms, including their history and processes of origin. Age of landforms is important: two fundamental groups. Directly produced by volcanic and tectonic activity. Eg mountain block created: an initial landform. Earths crust fractured, dislocated by internal earth forces. Shaped by processes or and agents of denudation: denudation is the long-term sum of processes that cause the wearing away of earths surface. Eg mountain block carved into sequential land forms. Volcanoes: conical or dome shaped initial landform build of lava and ash emitted from a vent in earths crust, active. Not seen to erupt, but evidence suggest recent activity: extinct. No sign of activity; evidence of long term weathering and erosion.
