Document Summary
Geography: connects natural systems and social sciences. Holistic: important to understand the system and how it operates rather than just one part. Human geography: study of human activities (social, economic and behavioural factors for example) Physical geography: study of the physical/natural environment. Physical environment shapes and influences human movement, culture, behaviour and land use: environmental migrants: moving because of their environment. Scales are important for geographers because a lot of the research is scale dependant. Looking at something at different scales will change your results (different significant details at different size scales: a lot of misinterpretation has to do with misunderstanding scales, space and time scales are the two key scales in physical. Regional geography: characteristics and processes of a particular place or region: examines everything in one area, many different ways to split regions (countries, continent, temperate regions, natural processes {this one is most likely}, etc. ) Systematic geography: looking for principles to explain and predict global patterns and processes.
