The classical view of representation - representation is a combination of syntax and semantics, interpreted by a system. Knowledge is represented locally, at one place in the system. The connectionist view of representation - representation is non-symbolic, but rather a series of connections. Computation occurs in parallel, and may be cellular or multi-cellular. Broad categories of mental operations include: sensation, perception, attention, memory, language, reasoning, and problem solving. 3-way analogy explains the processing of mental representations.
