Galen, sets the standard for 1400 years after him: it is the best description we will have until vesalius who in 1543 publishes his work on the makeup of the human body. Then they start to yell and scream about galen. Woodcuts: to translate the body galen didn"t do illustrations grave robbing: not acceptable at the time although he drowns apes he also vivisects if you can foretell what is going to happen you can escape the blame.
