He is told to leave troy, takes with him his young son, his elderly father, his household gods, and wife. As exiting the burning city, he realizes his wife has become separated from the group. He goes back to look for her, and meets her ghost. Ghost reprimands him for going back for her. Of what avail talks about why he should go on, will have a royal wife, new city, says that him trying to put his feeling first is no the will of the gods. Aeneas follows his heart, but is supposed to do the will of the gods and the fate set before you. This story of having to sacrifice what you love most resonates with the romans after the civil wars, and in other time periods as well.
