Classified into series of hierarchical categories: kingdoms, phylum, class, order, families, genus, species. Species groups of organisms that resemble one another in appearance, behaviour, chemistry and genetic make up. Taxonomists use a system of nomenclature to decide how to name an organism. Requires each species be identified with a two-part latin name: genus followed by a specific epithet. Population a group of interacting individuals of the same species occupying an area.
