The following marking scheme is based on information provided by the queen"s university. The science content applies to the abstract, introduction, and discussion sections, which are also marked for format errors. Science content instructions start on page 8 (further down). Covers the entire assignment and focuses on technical writing. We recommend spending half of your effort editing your work for common formatting mistakes such as citation errors, graphing errors, statistical formatting errors, spelling errors, colloquial statements (slang), and grammatical errors. We may not see mistakes in our own writing and so it is useful to have a classmate proofread, or even criticize your work prior to handing it in. Important format marking points: t. a. "s will not take format marks off for awkward wording, or poor phrasing. However awkward wording or poor phrasing may indirectly influence the science content mark: each type of mistake (e. g. , spelling mistake, obvious grammatical mistake, specific citation style mistake) is only penalized once.
