Document Summary
Biol102 - lecture 10 - continued chapter 9: Net yield of glycolysis is 2 atp, 2 nadh, 2 pyruvate. Also important thing to note is that all pathways are regulated by substrate availability. Pfk (phosphofructokinase) has allosteric site for inhibition by atp and citrate. Cell cycles it: makes it, destroys it, makes it destroys it in response to status of energy in cell. Stage 2: breakdown of pyruvate to an acetyl group. In eukaryotes, pyruvate is transported to the mitochondrial matrix. It is broken down by pyruvate dehydrogenase (pdh). Molecule of co2 is removed from each pyruvate. Remaining acetyl group is then attached to coa (coenzyme a). Coa is a big protein complex which activates pathways. It is regulated by post-translational modification through phosphorylation (kinase) and dephosphorylation (phosphatase). Coenzyme is used as it gets those 2 carbons in kreb"s cycle, oxidizes them 1 at a time and links them later to a bigger molecule: oxalate.
