Document Summary

Oxygen is a competitor; alternative substrate; plant pov, not the preferable substrate. Adding o2 to rubp eventually releases co2. Have pep carboxylase: can easily tell difference between o2 and co2. These plants require areas with warm dry climate to conserve water and prevent photorespiration. More carbon suf cient, use more energy but live in conditions where there is more. Some c4 plants separate processes using time. Cam plants open stomata at night; forms acid and stores it. During day, stomata is closed and co2 is broken down from acid stored. Detect response, then sends signals that trigger to a response. Short and long distance signal; can detect if too many cell bodies are being produced. Short distance signalling: signalling to cells around them. Long distance signalling: hormones or peptides that travel through circulatory system; greater distance; ex. insect releasing hormones in the air. Can cause change in structure, transcription, or enzyme function. Not catalytic, has a partner that does it.
