Document Summary
Lower limb muscles (reading materials: chapter 11: pages 308-321, 327-328; chapter 22: pages 589-591, 597- Note: to understand the primary function a muscle you need to know where the muscle comes from (origin) and where it is going to (insertion). Muscles that move the thigh (gluteal region): gluteal medius. Triangular shaped muscle located deep to the maximus. Ilial tibial tract (a connective tissue that start from iliac crest to insert on lateral condyle of tibia) gluteal maximus. Thick flat sheet of muscle that extends diagonally downward from pelvis, across backside at 45o angle posterior: Origin- external surface of illium, posterior surfaces of sacrum and coccyx. Insertion- gluteal tuberosity (posterior surface of femur) and ilial tibial tract. Origin-upper half of medial surface on the external side of the ilium. Lateral compartment, but we consider it to be part of poter. Lies deep to medius tensor fasciae latae iliopsoas:
