Document Summary
Cartilage and bone (reading materials: chapter 3: pages 71-74; chapter 5: pages 116-121; 131-135) Blood from adjacent tissues*: gives cells nutrients and takes away waste flexibility and support. Matrix of different cells and fibers three types: hyaline. End of bones between joints ribs attached to breast bone. Homogeneous so we cannot see the ground substance. All hyaline except articular cartilage is covered by the tissue perichondria which has blood vessels that provide nutrients and oxygen to cartilage cells fibrous elastic. Most common cartilage found at the articular surface of moveable joints, walls of the nose, larynx trachea, bronchi, ribs. Perichondrium: lacunae: cellular and fibrous layer. Weak: fibrous cartilage: lots of collagen fibers (type i) Chondrocytes found within lacuna** little ground substance. Around cells: single, pairs, or rows. Cells and ground substance surrounded by collagen packed tightly inside really strong. Where nourishment: dense connective tissue, bone found in intervertebral discs, symphysis pubis, some joints and tendons, elastic cartilage:
