Ghost stories, urban legends are complete phenomenon. Family stories can be folktales as well. Gossiping, about someone they know but you don"t know, but it is a good story anyways. Real comparison to be made between how stories change and how biology changes. Having a date for it changes the assumption of where the origins is. Written versions of fairy tales that reflect the values and morals of authors can be. Just before printing existed referred as literary fairy tales: designed to be read, for the literate, less room for modification. Challenges/ events that come in three, magic number. Magic that"s out of the world/ super natural. Not really a specific period of time: if it"s old, it gives the story authority, vaguely medieval time gives it mystery. Brother grimms picked up the fairy tales from middle- class informants which made them feel a little more cynical and clean. Wanted to retain the appearance of rustic authenticity.
