Sons decided how they lived in old age. Society judged them on how they performed the tasks of housekeeper, mother and wife. Women only went from home to church: made them seem weak and inferior. She weeps, but then a realization hits that she is free: not free from a bad husband, but free from societies view of what a women should be. Louise dies from a heart attack and dies from the happiness that was taken from her. Louise mallard: shows many of the characteristics of the women of this time. Stays home & takes care of husband and house: heart trouble. Must tell her of her husbands passing gently. When brently returns, richards tries to shield her from seeing him to protect her: many child-like traits.
