In mothering heart, in the mise-en-scene, you can find repeated elements that help move the narrative: certain properties help move the narrative. Motif works according to repetition, addition etc. Early analytical writing tends to gravitate towards mise-en-scene and it become lightning rods for thematic elements. When you focus on mise-en-scene you might notice broken camera movements. Cinematographic properties are similar to mise-en-scene, mise-en-scene elements are indebted to the stage. The components that are cinematographically derived from traditional photography. Cinema involves space in the matter of movement, involves time with considerations of duration of time. Film art breaks down the elements that comprise cinematographic properties into 3 broad categories: photographic image, boundaries of the frame, mobile framing (moving of the camera, duration of the image, photographic image. Range of tonality- considers the traditional choice of film stock, rate of exposure. Speed of motion- the speed at which the film is shot and printed and projected.
