The virtues of visual analysis: this method may not be perfect, and any two professionals looking at the same data may not agree on what they see or may draw different conclusions from time to time. Identifies independent and dependent variables judgments: if you make a mistake in judgment, it is likely to be in the direction of saying there was no effect rather than identifying one. To conclude that an intervention had an effect, it has to be fairly sizable: statistics show when an intervention is statistically significant. But in behaviour analysis, we have to be concerned with clinical significance. Cause and effect: two decisions have to be made. Do not use heavy lines to connect data points or to describe theoretical functions because they will de-emphasize or obscure data points. Provide scale marks along both axes at sufficiently frequent intervals to permit x and y values of data points to be read accurately.
