As children develop, they are able to derive relations from items not present, by comparison, non-physical feature. Past reference points = piece blossomed vocabulary together (making connections) By age 1 children develop a small vocabulary; approx. 50% of children with asd can"t communicate verbally (cannot make relational frames) Rote responding is common (i say, you say just repeating back; cannot spontaneously generate language) Poor understanding/use of idioms, colloquial language (cannot understand common language usage (sarcasm, expressions, etc. ))
