Agent of socialization: an individual group or institution that contributes to peoples socialization. Socialization is reciprocal - you are both the socializer and the socialize in several situations. Goal: produce people who can interact, think, pursue their interests within the guidelines prescribes by their culture. Infant does not actually have a sense of self (understanding self apart from other people) Learn your name, language, understand you are someone different than others. Play roles they see others performing (play dress up, pretending to cook etc. ,) Engaging in "anticipatory socialization" while pretending to play roles. Able to consider their role in relation to those of others. The generalized other: the perspective, views and expectations of the community. Specious present: lived experience only occurs in present. The past and future do not have an objective existence.
