Temporal order -- the iv has to act before there is a change in the dv (you smoke before you get lung cancer) Association -- speeding doesn"t cause lung cancer, you gotta be able to show that they are related. No alternative causal factors -- there can"t be another explanation. Becomes the nal effect vriable in causal explanation. Assumption that inferences about individuals can be made from data about group characteristics. You have to know exactly what you are talking about. Ex if youre talking about sports you need to have an idea about what kind/type of sport. Ex: it has to be a team sport.
