Reviewing literature: what areas have been researched, what are the controversies, good, gives you a place to start, what is surprising, what is missing, pg 357. Research process focus/research question: theory, topic, design a study, collect data. How good do they feel/think about themself, how they think others feel about them: assumptions, about social life. Important for inductive and deductive reasoning: relationships. Interaction of concepts affecting topic: e. g. developing self esteem, there is relationship between how you feel and how others think of you. Is it developed by our interactions: how is reality constructed, how do things really work, how do you see the world, like social reality, how will your ontological assumptions influence what you consider as. Methodology: what are the appropriate tools (methods), techniques to gain social knowledge, defines reliable, valid knowledge, does acquired knowledge reflect the population, do the measures used reflect what is studied.
