Neo-marxism theory: attempts to reinterpret, revise or up-date marxs theoretical ideas. So that they better explain more recent developments in capitalist society. Approaches within early neo-marxian theory: early marxian theory is from the 1890-1940s. look at slides for the two theories. The inaccessibility of early neo-marxism was primarily written in german or italian. Making it in accessible to people speaking english. However, parts of marxs works was accessible in english in the 1950s. Neo- marxism was available in english in the 1970s. The critique of structural functionalist theory was the dominate theory in sociology from the 1940-1950, although marx was largely inaccessible some of marxs work was available in english to be used as part of the critique of sf. Marxian-influenced theorist: ralf dahrendorf (german sociologist) and: wright mills (american sociologist) not neo-marxist because they deviated in their theories. Theories of conflict or power: dahrendorf (a theory of conflict), social order and the lack of attention to social conflict.
