We will examine the historical context of different laws and law enforcement and how they affect everyday life experiences in relation to structured social relations. Political instrument used by speci c groups to further their own interests often at expense of others. Often associated with the interests and value of the elite class (top down) ideology and dominant discourse. Created by the elite class with interest of elite class in mind. Collective interest from the ordinary (lower class) through lobbying (bottom-up) social change/movement. Can come together to express their political interest (ex. Social values de ne what marriage is about. Traditional idea of marriage is revised by society. Intersection of marriage, social class and gender. Social class was effect by who you marry (ex. white woman marry black man) White men exempted from the anti-miscegenation law.
