RELIGST 1B06 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Hindu Philosophy, Human Nature
Document Summary
Why do we do things that we know are bad for us? . All darshanas, whether religious or not, try to explain who/what we are as human beings. Human nature how we differ from other living creatures. Authority of the interpretation: narrative tells about disobedience to god and its consequences, can be interpreted in different ways (some believe serpent represents satan, some do not). In islam, qur"an understood as the final revelation; bible acknowledged as a holy book but has been corrupted (was not preserved correctly). Qur"an only the qur"an in arabic; translations are but interpretations. Bible follows a historical trajectory; starts at the beginning continues chronologically in the narrative sections. Story of creation not referenced again in the ot/hb except to acknowledge god as creator; referenced again in nt to explain sin. Story of adam and eve referenced elsewhere in qur"an. No explicit reference in genesis 3 to the serpent as satan.
