Afect and emoion are used interchangeably, as well as well-being and happiness. Afect: immediate physiological response to simuli, based on arousal, involves valence = appraise things as painful or pleasureable. Emoion: acknowledging personal neediness or incompleteness in terms of what we cant control, is sharpened as it always has an object, as is associated with pursuit of a goal, contrast: mood is free loaing, objectless, long lasing. Happiness: posiive emoional state, only used when clariied by addiional info; litle consensus on its meaning. Subjecive well-being: evaluaion of current status in world, posiive afect plus saisfacion. Pa and na in eastern groups, mainly asians: dialecical thinking=able to think in many diferent direcions/views. May allow asians to have higher social intelligence. Those who got candy showed beter criical thinking and problem solving. Provide explanaions for robust social/cogniive efects of posiive experiences. Oten negaive emoions are expressed physically (ight or light response)
