The preferences you use to select a mate, will survive if it optimizes reproductive success. Our gametes are the main determinants of our mating choices. People back in the day didn"t just have sex with anyone bc they didn"t have birth control: women were choosy because eggs are expensive, sperm are cheap. For a female, the baby involves so much cost, the woman is forced to take care of it. For men, they could make a vessel for their genes without actually raising the child, so they can sleep with whoever they want, and it"s the woman who has to say no. Thought sometimes men want to take part in raising their offspring, they want to to optimize their reproductive success through their child. But its women"s biology that forces them to be choosy. Research shows that men are more interested in sex than females.
