Some ppl argue that the oldest research done in social-psych is based off of how we react working in groups or near groups: a lot of things we do involve doing them around ppl. Two different ways in which being in a group effects our behaviour. Social loafing, working together towards some goal: once ppl start working together in a group, all group members individual abilities are lowered and usually one person picks up the slack for everyone, which is called social compensation. Says this has to do with dominant responses , sometimes the dominant task is formed really well, an athlete or a basketball player throwing a free throw is a dominant task that is developed really well, Modifies the yerkes dodson law: different types of tasks have different levels of optimal arousal, that they could handle before the inevitable drop off in performance.
