The text supplements the class material (additional material on top of the lectures) Questions on the tests are on material where there is not overlap (overlapping material will not be on the midterm) About 20% will be from the text for the tests. About 10% will be from the text for the final. The handbook is optional, but recommended (contains all of the notes for the course) 8-10 questions are from the text (since the second midterm) Goals of the course: understand patterns of thought, emotion, behavior, that are considered problematic, understand current hypotheses about the causes of psychopathology. We do not know the exact cause of any mental disorder: be aware of the challenges involved in investigating the causes of psychopathology, appreciate our lack of understanding concerning the causes and treatment of psychopathology. Lecture 1 (tuesday, january 5, 2016) introduction to abnormal psychology. The more we learn, the more ignorant and concerned we get.
