Changed school a few times before 8 yrs bullied, lead to panic attacks, focused all efforts on excelling at school. In bed for a week, lost 15 pounds because she didn"t eat. Snapped out of it and went on to high school. Pediatric depression - to meet criteria for major depression must be depressed every day for a week. Was in science/math stream, wanted med school. 16 yrs: crohn"s disease (inflammatory bowel disease). Started to see that there was a darkness throughout her life, would take a long time to figure out what that was. Pediatric ward (medical) under a month, others were supportive, still successful academically. Applied for international leadership conference in bc. Begged parents to get her out of it because she was scared, but they made her go.
