Hpa axis and anxiety: called hpa because of the 3 structures involved, hypothalamus: small structure (base of the brain) Hpa and anxiety: hpa function altered in anxiety (and depression, tends to be higher, more intense, more reactive to stress, antidepressant suppress hpa activity, damping down our normal reactions to stress. Young stressed macaques show anxiety-, depression-like symptoms as adults, plus changes in hpa.
