Document Summary
Basic level: unconscious re exive learning is vital to the survival of a speci cs. A child only needs to touch a stove once to avoid being burned again. Two types of unconscious learning : classical conditioning and instrumental conditioning. Foundation for cc was done by russian physiologist ivan pavlov in the 1890s and 1900s. Classical conditioning is also called pavlovian conditioning to honour his contributions. Pavlov was interested in the stages of digestion which began with salivation in the mouth as food was. Made observation that dogs would salivate before the food reached their mouth, even before the food stimulus reached its mouth. Classical conditioning is learning that one event accurately and reliably predicts the occurrence of a second event. Sound of metronome singled to a dog the food would be delivered. The dog would begin to salivate at the sound of the metronome (this is called a conditional re ex)
